Jiu Jitsu 
   Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on controlling an opponent and making them submit through choke holds, joint locks or superior position which inflicts a level of discomfort.  Most of the techniques in Jiu Jitsu are ground based due to the idea that control is easier to achieve on the ground as opposed to standing. Through the use of leverage and position students will learn to overcome their opponents. 
   Jiu Jitsu is physically and mentally demanding.  It offers numerous benefits to those who decide to take the journey.  Some of these benefits include physical fitness, a greater knowledge of your body and a better understanding of what you are really capable of. There are also social benefits from working with groups of like-minded people as you learn and have fun as a team.  
   Many people first learned of Jiu Jitsu from its use in MMA.  Our daily practices of Jiu Jitsu differ greatly from MMA as there is no punching, kicking or slamming involved, allowing students to focus solely on Jiu Jitsu.  We emphasize safe grappling techniques that help to reduce the likelihood of injury and can be practiced on a daily bases.  Practicing Jiu Jitsu can be priceless when referring to its value in real life self defense and combat situations, despite its absence of striking.  While there are professional MMA classes ran at the gym the majority of students will find that pursuing Jiu Jitsu is the most enjoyable and fulfilling option. 
   The founder of the gym, Evan Dunham has been fighting professionally since 2007 and at the highest level of MMA competition in the UFC since 2009.  He credits Jiu Jitsu and its techniques as one of the leading reason that he has been able to compete at this level.  
   Classes at the academy are taught 6 days a week.  Classes start with warm-ups followed by demonstration and drilling of techniques.  Students finish practice by grappling with other students at their own skill level.  Come observe a class or better yet participate in one to see what it is all about. Kids BJJ
   The Kids ages 7+ Jiu Jitsu program is an excellent way for your child to grow into a productive adult while learning self defense and an exciting new sport. Getting into shape, making friends, and having a ton of fun are just a few of the benefits from consistent training.  This program is a great opportunity for your child to learn how to over come obstacles on the mats so they can over come obstacles in life.  Instead of focusing on the “must win” mentality, our focus is on developing a good work ethic, a positive attitude, and a love for Martial Arts. Class curriculum consists of warm-ups, techniques, drills, and live training.

No Gi 
   The No Gi class will be run just like the Gi Jiu Jitsu class except without the use of the gi uniform. Typically practicing without the gi results in faster place movements. Where as using the gi slows movements down but there is more focus on precise movement.  Both gi and no gi training are very productive in a students development.  Both styles are equally fun in there own unique way.
